World Class Instruction

Charlotte Dojo offers classes for adults and children of all ages. Ephraim Dojo aims to provide quality martial arts training to the community. Currently the dojo offers classes three days out of the week. Classes are currently offered on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

Sensei Randall Ephraim has been teaching World Oyama Karate in Charlotte N.C.
since 2007 when he arrived in the queen city of Charlotte North Carolina.
Randall Ephraim began his love for karate at the age of eleven when he started
training briefly with Shihan Clyde Coy in 1974 in white plains n.y. In 1976 he
began training Universal GoJo. At the age 14. At the age of 18 Sensei Randall began training in Wing Chun with Sifu/professor Tony Watts who was then under the Sanuucus Ryu jujitsu organization
and was taught by the late Dr. Moses Powell . When Professor Watts closed his
school Sensei Randall decided to go back to his roots and return to Oyama Karate
Sensei Randall recieved his black belt in 2004. Sensei Randall is also an accomplished fighter competing in both Semi and Full contact tournaments. Sensei Randall placed 2nd place
in the World Oyama invitational in 2005 and in 2006 he placed 1st place!

Family Classes

Men, women and children are all encouraged to come and train together in this
class. This class can typically run from 60- 90 minutes long and will focus on
various aspects of kihon, kata and kumite. This class is suited for all fitness
levels and all age groups. The classes are designed to create challenging
workout for all fitness levels and are designed to promote good health.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

The art of Karate was developed in Okinawa and brought over to the mainlands in the 20th century.  The characters (空手) translate to mean empty hand.  Karate is a striking art that implements the use of kicking,knee strikes,punching, elbows and open other hand techniques.  Our style focuses on Kihon (basics), Kata (forms) and Kumite (fighting).
SOSHU (Grandmaster) SHIGERU OYAMA  was born in Japan in 1935 and began studying karate under Mas Oyama at an early age. He became the Saiko Shihan of Kyokushin Karate and was sent to the United States to introduce Japanese full contact Karate to the US.
Fighters traveled from all over the world to train under him and he developed many world champions. In 1981, he and his brother, Saiko Shihan, founded World Oyama Karate. Soshu Oyama has published several books and videos on karate and is recognized worldwide as a top Japanese karate master.
He has fought the legendary 100 man kumite, winning 100 consecutive fights with black belt opponents in a single day. Soshu Shigeru Oyama is a 10th degree black belt and the Executive Committee Chairman of World Oyama Karate.
Sensei Randall is a Yon-dan.  He Has been teaching in Charlotte N.C. since 2007 when he  arrived in the queens city of Charlotte North Carolina. Randall Ephraim began  his love for karate at the age of  eleven when he started training briefly with  Shihan Clyde Coy in  1974 in white plains N.Y.

In 1976 he began training Universal GoJo for  approximately 18 months. Sensei Randall took a break from Goju for a while to return to train Wing Chun at the age of 18 with Sifu Tony Watts for eight years  until taking another break from martial arts to raise his young family. Sensei  Randall return to martial arts training in 1995 when he brought his son to train  with his old instructor Professor Toney Watts. Who was then under the Sanuucus  Ryu jujitsu organization who was taught by the late Dr. Moses Powell. When  Professor Watts closed his school Sensei Randall decided to go back to his roots  and return to Oyama Karate. Sensei Randall studied under Shihan Sakai for 7  years and received his black belt in 2004.

Sensei Randall placed 2nd place in the World Oyama invitational  in 2005 and in 2006 he placed 1st place! Sensei Randall decided to move to Charlotte N.C.  and with the help of Sensei  William Brown of Kyokushin Organization has been teaching Bushiken Karate since
then.
